Ooni crowned in secret

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, was early this morning crowned in a secret traditional ceremony.
The monarch will enter the palace and be received by palace chiefs.
An informed source said he would meet the press at 10 am at the palace.
The source said Ogunwusi was crowned traditionally in a confidential ceremony between 3am and 5am.
According to him, there was nothing like coronation in the Ife tradition.
He said “experts” had enlightened those in charge of the process that there could only be an inauguration for the Ooni instead of coronation.
He added: “Ooni gives crowns to traditional rulers and he is not expected to receive one like others. His crowning is usually done in secrecy or confidence, not in the open.
“And traditionally, whoever is pronounced by the kingmakers and the government becomes the Ooni. He does not need to wait  till he undergoes rites and crowned before he is referred to as Ooni.”

Kogi: Confusion as APC candidate Audu dies at 68

INEC’s decision is wrong, say experts
KOGi State All Progressives Congress (APC)governorship candidate Prince Abubakar Audu yesterday died after taking ill on Saturday. He was 68.
Audu was leading by 41,000 votes (he scored 240,867) ahead of incumbent Governor Idris Wada, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate who scored 199,514 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the exercise inconclusive, saying there would be supplementary election in 91 units —a decision condemned by senior legal experts as “simply wrong”.
Audu died in his village Ogbonicha-Alloma in Ofu Local Government Area following complications from a stroke. His death set off arguments about the future of the election.
“I think he will be buried on Monday in accordance with Islamic rites,” a source said.
It was learnt that Audu had been billed for a medical check-up this week. He was said to be feeling unwell since Friday.
Another source said he died yesterday morning even before the results were announced, contrary to the information that he died after the elections were declared inconclusive.
The circumstances of Audu’s death could not be confirmed.
Audu’s remains will be buried in his home town this morning according ot Islamic rites.
Governor Idris Wada is expected to lead the government team to his burial, it was learnt last night.
When Audu’s running mate James Faleke, was asked at about 5p.m. to leave his home base in Ekinrinade for Lokoja, there was the suspicion that something untoward had happened.
A source, who spoke in confidence, said: “At about 5pm, Mr. Faleke got a call to proceed to Lokoja to attend to an emergency. Faleke later moved from Lokoja to Ogbonicha-Alloma.
“A worried Faleke then asked what was wrong. He was then told that Audu had a partial stroke and needed urgent attention. This made Faleke to immediately embark on an unprepared journey.
“Shortly after hitting the road, Faleke’s phone was bombarded with calls on what happened to Audu. He also was in a dilemma and had no answer to the enquiries.”
The National Secretary of APC, Mallam Mai Mala Buni said: “We have not received any formal notification from the family but we just heard the announcement that he is dead.”
A national officer of the party said: “Yes, my brother, Prince Abubakar Audu is dead.”
In his Twitter handle, Senator Shehu Sani( Kaduna Central Senatorial District) said: ” Abubakar Audu; victory and tragedy. We mourn, we mourn a dogged fighter, a resilient optimist.”
An aide to the late Audu said: “This is a tragedy. I just lost my boss. He did not make it despite the efforts of everybody here to revive him.  Everyone is crying here and I will call you later.”

Outcome of South-East Governors,MASSOB and IPOB meeting

By Emeka Mamah and Francis Igata
Enugu -The meeting of Igbo leaders summoned by the South East Governors’ Forum, SEGF, on security implications of the agitations by members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB and the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB has ended in Enugu with the leaders resolving to to set up a delegation of Igbo elders to meet President Muhammadu Buhari on the marginalisation of Igbo in the country.
They also agreed to dialogue with members of the MASSOB and IPOB groups with a view to ending the protests now rocking the old Eastern region.

True Federalism:Igbo Groups Plan 5m-Man March

ABOUT 42 Igbo organizations have planned to organize a five million-man march for what they describe as true federalism in the five south eastern states in December.
They say the protest march will hold simultaneously in Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi and Imo states at a date before Christmas. The Founder of Igbo Youth Movement, IYM, Evangelist Elliot Uko, made this known after a marathon meeting with Igbo traders organizations and some Niger Delta groups.

The Niger Delta groups which attended the meeting yesterday at the IYM secretariat in Enugu included, Union of Niger Delta and South-South Youth Congress, among others.
According to Uko, 13 different marches for the restructuring of Nigeria will hold in Afikpo, Abakaliki, Nsukka, Enugu, Aba, Umuahia, Ohafia, Okigwe, Owerri, Orlu, Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka.
He said that, “these peaceful marches will be led by the clergy and students groups in each of the cities and towns in the South East.
“Only the truth can save the situation and the truth is that Nigeria must be urgently restructured in order to give all sections a sense of belonging thereby enthroning true federalism without delay. Only an early return to true federalism will heal Nigeria.
“I do not think any Igbo leader will be stupid enough to commit political suicide by trying to deny the truth.
“Any attempt to impose scripted agenda on the people will only drive those leaders to irrelevance and self-destruction.”
Meanwhile, a faction of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, yesterday, raised alarm on the nonchalant attitude and insensitivity of many Igbo people residing in northern and western parts of Nigeria who still believe that Nigeria State will be better for inhabitation of non indigenous people.
MASSOB in a statement said that if former President Goodluck Jonathan who was the most closest neighbour, in-law and friend of Ndigbo whose administration for six years could not right the wrongs the previous administrations meted to Ndigbo in the areas of deplorable conditions of Federal roads in Igboland, effect critical developmental infrastructure; Buhari’s administration will never be fair to Ndigbo.
But the OHANEZE Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio –cultural organization, dissociated itself from the activities of the Biafra agitators, who had been protesting in many cities in the South East and South –South, saying that Biafra died in 1970 with the surrender by General Philip Effiong, to the Nigerian troops.
Addressing reporters in Awka yesterday, the chairman, Forum of State Presidents of Ohaneze in the seven Igbo –speaking states, Dr. Chris Eluomunoh said that no right thinking person would support what he called the madness by some youths, who were being deceived to engage in something they cannot finish.

He said: “You will notice that Ohaneze has been very silent on the issue of Biafra insurgency, though the youth wing of Ohaneze has been speaking on it. Ohaneze, as the Igbo cultural group, cannot support Biafra and we dissociate ourselves from it totally.
“Igbo people have contributed so much in the development of Nigeria and we cannot allow some people to jeopardize the lives and efforts of millions of Igbo people residing in all parts of Nigeria.
“We believe that anybody who has any issue to settle with the federal government should use dialogue and that is why we participated in the last National Conference. No sane Igbo person would want to witness a repeat of the kind of thing that happened during the Nigeria Civil War.
“Ojukwu, who led the Biafra war, returned to Nigeria from exile and contested elections in Nigeria, which showed that he was fully integrated in Nigeria and was a full- fledged Nigerian before he died.”
Eluemunor denied the speculation that politicians of Igbo extraction were supporting the Biafra agitation, adding that their support comes mainly from outside the country.
He however observed that part of the reason for the agitation was the dearth of infrastructure in Igbo land and pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to address the infrastructural decay in the area.
However, National Director of Information, MASSOB, Mr. Uchenna Madu advised Ndigbo residing outside Igboland to start returning back to their home land, re-establish their business and investment back to Igboland.
“We have decided and promise to provide adequate security of lives and properties in Igboland . MASSOB shall defend Igboland with our blood, valor and enthusiasm. It is our unflinching service to our father land.
MASSOB has vowed to root away kidnapping, arm robbery and other criminal tendencies in Igboland because there is no place in Nigeria like Igboland.
“MASSOB wishes to salute the courageous spirit and vision of these Igbo sons who proved their total love for development and industrialization of Igboland. Men who understand that charity and goodness of a real Igbo-man begin from home land. These men include chief Rommy Ezeonwuka (Ogilisi Igbo) proprietor of Rojenny Tourist Games village Oba, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, CEO of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company, Nnewi, Chief Daniel Chukwudozie (Akudo of Okija) CEO of Dozzy group of companies Onitsha, Chief Dr. Alexander Chika Okafor (OON) Executive Chairman of Chicason Group of Companies Nnewi, Chief Cletus Madubugwu Ibeto, Chairman of Ibeto Groups of Companies Nnewi, Chief Chidume Oranu, GMD Krisoral Group of companies Onitsha and several others.
“Nigeria is a state where others are first class citizens but treat the Igbo as second class citizen, a state where others are born to rule but treat Igbos as perpetual outcasts, a state where state policies deliberately denies Igboland critical developmental infrastructure. Nigeria has vowed to continue to be a state where prejudice, tribalism, exclusion and hate are elevated while nation building is ignored, a state where it seem the only logic for unity is to share oil resources and not on the basis of consent, mutual respect, fraternity and shared brotherhood.
“Today in Nigeria, true Nationhood has remained still born, peace has remain elusive to Nigeria which still remain in perpetual strife and ever increasing crisis since her independence.
This undeniable realities are the reasons the Nigeria state is afraid of Biafra which represent the truth they cannot legitimately counter. Biafra speaks of the truth Nigeria know they are guilty of, so out of weakness, jittery and fear Nigeria resort to repression, persecution and detention of Biafra agitators”Biafra Spokesperson lamented.

Indifference Greets Power Supply In Obudu After Two Months

A show of indifference greeted the arrival of electricity Thursday, in Obudu local government area as the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) supplied power for the first time in over two months CrossRiverWatch can authoritatively report.
It is still unclear at exactly what time in the morning that supply began with CrossRiverWatch’s Ikwen Atuaka suggesting between 7:00 to 7:30am. “With only a few believing what they saw as it has been pretty long” he says.
Several respondents who spoke to CrossRiverWatch expressed indifference. “O are they ready to supply power?” queried Godspower Assang.
To Rose Ugbe, a nurse “we are used to buying fuel for our power generating sets so this means nothing” while Alice, a vegetable seller says “it does not affect my vegetables, I am on my way to the market”.
The prolonged power outage and alleged high billing system led to demonstrations by several unions operating in the council area with letters written and copied to several authorities, including the governor, PHEDC among others.
The Councilor representing Utugwang central ward, Denis Etiongbe in a telephone interview with our reporter alleged “we have not had light in our community for over ten years.
This is because the distribution lines were destroyed by wind and since then NEPA and PHCN (Former names of electricity agencies, now christened PHEDC) have not said or done anything despite countless notifications and when we as a community, which I contributed personal funds decided to fix it, they run down with a bill with a very small community in the ward asked to pay 60 thousand Naira”.
Several other respondents who spoke with CrossRiverWatch pointed out instances where bills paid for one month were not reflected in the following month, and what one respondent termed as “the astronomical rise in the bills.”
Getting a reaction from the Business Manager of PHEDC in the area was not possible as no staff was available during several visits by CrossRiverWatch to their office located along Ogoja road in Obudu main town.
Criticisms have continuously trailed the billing system of the PHEDC in Obudu with investigations by our reporter suggesting that the non-compliance of bill payment by customers in the Obudu/Obanliku zone of the Ogoja business district as a major factor for the non supply of electricity for some time now. The Obudu Legislative Council had adopted a resolution on May 20, 2015 to stop payment of electricity bills until supply improves.
Cross River Governor, Benedict Ayade who hails from the local government was not spared either with our Government House Correspondent quoted as saying “throughout our stay in Obudu and Obanliku, there was no power supply as every public and private place and event visited or attended came alive with power supplied from movable hydrocarbon powered electricity generating plants.”
The governor during the thanksgiving service on August 30, 2015 had promised the people that they will not be in darkness any more by Christmas or latest by Easter 2016 which though was applauded by some attendees in church, others however, were sceptical about it as according to them, work in the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) injection sub-station intended to serve Obudu and Obanliku local government areas has stopped for almost a year.
On the occasion, Ayade promised that “If you have this Christmas in darkness and it extends to Easter, this is not me! How can people live in perpetual darkness in this world? What is the essence of been a governor when I come to my people everyday there is no light.” he queried.
